I love the hexagon tiles in the boys’ bathroom so much. I knew we had to have it when I came across an inspiration picture on Pinterest. We couldn’t decide if we wanted to do a black grout, or white, and ultimately we went with white to make the black pop a little bit more. I know that these floors are going to show every mark, and speck of dirt, but it is so worth it, because they look so freaking good!! Even the boys love it which makes me so happy.
Every time Dax walks by he goes “wwwwwwwwooowwww!!” and Eli also always makes a point to look at the floors when he goes upstairs. So glad that we took the risk of having a black floor in a bathroom.
I mentioned on Monday that David messed up the spacing on the tiles in our laundry room. Since we used dark gray grout, it is really obvious. In fact, David showed a co-worker pictures of the laundry room and he noticed the floor right away. David said that because he took so many days to complete the floor, it made it hard to get the spacing right. Who knows, but it has to be fixed so this laundry room doesn’t look DIY.
Once we complete the basement, we can go back to fix and finish the never ending laundry room project.
Can you spot the spacing issues?
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that we also tore out the closet in the laundry room, and that obviously included the carpet that was left in there.
After David ripped out the carpet, it was time to prep the floors so that he could tile them. He spent a lot of last week prepping, and this weekend tiling. We ran out of grout, but after a quick run to Home Depot the floors should be done this week!
Between the cabinets being installed and the floors almost being done, this laundry room is hopefully on track to be completed in a month or so.
Wishful thinking, right?
David worked extremely hard all last weekend on our house. We are pretty much moved into our bedroom, we just have some touch-ups for our contractor and then we can hang out pictures, art, shades, TV, etc. It finally looks like a room and it is such a good feeling.
We are getting down to the end of this remodel (at least for the contractor), so that means it is crunch time for David to finish the laundry room. They are going to demo our current laundry room probably next week, so our new laundry room has to be complete. The tiling and grouting of the floors is done and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This is going to be one cool looking room to do laundry in. I am so tired of folding clothes on our nasty kitchen table, kitchen chairs, and Eli’s big boy bed (which is covered in tools and crap at this point). I never thought I would be so excited for a place to fold, but I am. I am literally dreaming about it!
I can’t believe it is going to be 2018 in a few days, this year went by extremely fast, and while 2017 was great, I am so ready to leave it behind! Have a fun and safe NYE!
Ah another Monday! I usually love the weekends just like anybody else does, but lately I can’t wait for them to be over so that we can continue to get our house worked on!
We are finally starting to get to the fun stuff of the master renovation. Last week our cabinets arrived for our vanity, we picked out our counter, and our contractor picked up our floor tile and wall tile. In Compass Pointe, David tiled the back wall where our vanity was, and he also did a half wall around our tub. We loved the look and never got sick of it in the entire 18 months we lived there. So, we decided to go with subway tile for the backsplash and walls in this bathroom too. It is clean and classic looking, and I think it’s good for resale as well. We are going a gray and white color scheme, and since our vanity will be gray, we thought white was the appropriate choice for the subway tile. Our homework for the weekend was to decide on a grout color and a paint color. You would think this would be an easy task, but we are struggling! Part of me likes the idea of white walls and gray grout but then another part of be thinks that that would be too white. We are also toying with the idea of white grout and gray walls but I get nervous that the white grout will get dirty and gross looking. Decisions decisions. Hopefully we figure it out soon!
