Laundry Room Closet

I was so excited to be able to move our laundry room upstairs in this house.  We have so much space in there, it’s crazy.  You would really think that the opportunities are endless in a laundry room that size, but the truth is, I am completely lost on what the heck to do in there, and how to organize everything.

David installed a mini closet system, and for now we have towels, sheets, and delicates in there, but I still don’t know how I feel about that and what laundry I want to keep in there.  I just feel like there could be a lot more functionality in here and I am sure that the more I use the (soon to be) completed laundry room, I will figure it out as I go.

David is taking next week off, so let’s just hope we get more done during that week than we did during his week off for Thanksgiving!

Closet Doors

We had such a great time with family and celebrating my ONE year old’s birthday! He loves to eat and has never had sugar up until his birthday party, lets just say he wasn’t amused. I was really shocked actually.

Now that things are starting to calm down, I have some progress to share.  Eli’s room is complete, yes you read that correctly.  It has been a long long long time coming, but it looks amazing and we all love it so much. Once I fill all of his picture frames, I will share the adorable room with you.

As you all know by now how much my dog pees everywhere. It is just so beyond annoying, but I don’t really blame him.  He is probably stressed, plus he’s an old man.  Not sure if you have ever seen or listened to an 11 year old pug, but they are literally like grumpy old men! So cute.  What’s not cute, is the fact he likes to pee on anything that isn’t wood floor.  He was so used to peeing all over the carpet, and we ripped that out months ago.  Now, his only option is the carpeted basement (which is closed off so he can’t pee in there anymore), or on piles of clothes, towels, sheets, etc.  No, we don’t keep piles of stuff on the floor, however closets tend to have all of those items in them, and our closets have no doors.  Are you piecing his together yet? The pug goes to all of the doorless closets, and pees on everything he can possibly lift his leg on.  It’s been fun to deal with.

When our photographer came to take Dax’s one year photos, and my family coming in for Dax’s birthday, it was time to get those closets up and running. David managed to put up all of the doors except for in Dax’s room.  With Dax’s nap schedule, it’s hard to get in there to put the finishing touches on his room.

The doors look great, and make the halls and Eli’s room look so much more complete. They still need moldings to cover the track, some readjusting, and hardware, but the fact the dog can’t pee on everything anymore is a win for me!

I am looking forward to a weekend of getting more stuff done! Happy Friday!

It’s a May Miracle

There are two things that I can’t believe. Actually, there’s a bunch of things I can’t believe.  First, I can’t believe that it is May, that we have been here for one year now, and that Dax is 11 months.  Where the heck did time go? Yikes.  Second, our master closet is done.  Yes, you read that correctly, the master closet is done. It’s a May miracle! David started this project in December and told me that it would only take a weekend or two…HAH!

We came across some issues while “building” this closet.  To start, we never really designed the closet. David had a vision in his head, and for some reason I assumed that he counted my boots, my shirts,  jeans and hanging clothes, so obviously there would be just the right amount of boot space, shelving, and hanging space.  Wrong.  He just estimated, and he was off.  Not way off, but definetly enough to annoy me.

Another issue we came across was how annoying it was to paint the shelving.  Let’s just say painting isn’t David’s strong suite, and the amount of time it took to paint all of these pieces was ridiculous.

Lastly, our contractors kind of messed up where they built the wall to our new closet, and it is way too late to fix it. I doubt you remember this situation we came across.  But this little blurb might make more sense if you read it.  Anyway, I totally got over the fact that our room looks absolutely stupid with one window, but whatever.  What is annoying me now is that they built the new closet wall so close to the closet window, that there can only be moldings on one side of the window.  WTH? I didn’t notice it at all until David went to put our window treatments up- because you know, the neighbors were probably tired of watching us change twice a day.  It looks so awful and weird, but there is literally nothing we can do.  Because there are only moldings on one side, the window treatments can’t be centered to the top molding because you will see an inch or so on the right side.  So, the blinds have to be off center and it looks ridiculous.  Just one more thing we hope future buyers won’t notice.

In the end, I truly thought that this closet would be the death of me and if we could do it again I think we would hire it out.  At least I would hire it out.  I can’t speak for the husband. The closet isn’t what I was envisioning, but it works and is functional.  It’s also pretty, so that is a plus too!

Sick

I know I promised for some updates, but I have been so unbelievably sick.  So sick that David had to take off work, and he even slept in the basement all week. Poor guy.  Anyway, because our room was quarantined, he couldn’t finish my closet like he swore he would this week. He also was on daddy duty all week so he was too exhausted (I assume) to do any other projects in the house.  It’s always something.  I don’t care how sick I am this weekend, the closet is going to be finished. Period.  I also really don’t know what project should come next, so let the stress continue.

Have a  great weekend!

Vacation

I swear I’m not neglecting this blog, but we just got back from a much needed vacation. Since we were gone there wasn’t much progress going on, but I swear our closet will be completed by next week. Well, it better be!!

If I had a choice, the closet will be completed, and next up our kitchen, pantry, Eli’s big boy room, laundry room, family room, office/playroom, mudroom, and then the exterior. But let’s be real, it totally won’t go that way.

Anyway, be on the lookout for a closet update- hopefully it isn’t two months from now (kidding!). In the mean time, look at these little cuties in vacay mode…

Pantry Paint

I was really hoping that I would have more progress to report today, but unfortunately you just get to read about pantry paint. Yippee!

Originally, the plan was to hire a painter to do the entire house.  The contractors ended up painting the master bathroom and our kitchen, so that they could take pictures for their website.  Since things are going a lot slower than we hoped, there are certain rooms that need to be painted immediately in order for them to get completed- specifically the master walk-in and the pantry.  We can’t clear all of the rooms were our clothes are being stored until the closet is done, and we can’t get all of the food out of our kitchen, and the appliances out of the family room and dining room until the pantry is done.  That being said, David had to paint the closet and pantry.  The closet is just primed right now, but the pantry is pretty much done and ready for shelving and floors! We went with Benjamin Moore- Gray Tint and I think it looks great.Have a great weekend!!

Weekend Progress

Hopefully you all had great weekends.  I have been fighting off another sickness. I swear it’s never ending.  The weather was also kind of gloomy and really cold, so that meant we had to stay inside and work on the house.  By we, I mean David (Eli helped too).

Kitchen: We decided that we want different pendants.  The ones we were eyeing became available again, so we ordered them! Hopefully we like them more.  Here are the current ones we are switching out.Fireplace: The fireplace is almost done being framed.  David built it so that it could withstand a lot of weight.  AKA a giant TV.Doors: We are replacing all of the doors in the house.  The contractor is charging us more money to install the doors, than the doors actually cost, so David is installing them himself.  He installed the half bathroom door and the basement door.  Maybe now that the basement has a door, the dog can’t run in there to take a pee.  Oh wait, he went twice today.Master closet: Our clothes are still all over this freaking house, which makes it hard to keep the house clean and organized.  I still can’t find the majority of my winter stuff.  Anyway, the shelving and priming got done in our master closet.  Which means it needs painting and then we can officially move into our room.I talked to our contractor today and he mentioned they would be done this week.  Thats great, but there is still so much more for David to do! I just hope that we are 100% done by June. That seems really far from now right?
