You guys will never believe this, but…David finished Dax’s new room by the deadline I gave him! Woohoo! Best miracle ever!
Once the paint was finished, we we started moving Dax’s things into his new room. We are keeping all of his furniture the same until he is ready for a big boy bed, which hopefully isn’t for a long time. I love how the white paint looks with the black, gold, and green accents. It is a perfect room for our wild boy and definitely one that he will be able to grow into. It is so hard to believe that it used to be dark wood, and blue, and now it is light, airy, and bright.
The room is a lot smaller than we anticipated, so it is a good thing we decided to make this Dax’s big boy room instead of the new nursery. There is no way the glider would have fit in here, so it couldn’t have worked out better.
We are still waiting on the closet doors and closet door hardware to arrive as well as a mirror for above Dax’s dresser. Since the room is 98%, it’s time to get that nursery competed as best as we can so we can feel fully prepared for the baby.
How is it already Monday?! Did you all have a good holiday weekend? Since the 4th was on a Thursday this year, David took Friday off and we headed to the city for the day with the boys. We are trying to take in everything we can before this baby arrives here soonish.
Obviously, the other reason I love long holiday weekends, is because David gets stuff done. He finished painting Dax’s room and it looks so clean and bright. I am really happy we decided to do moldings instead of wallpaper and keep it all white. I know white can be boring, but I think it looks super cool in this room.
We went with Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace and I really think this is my new favorite white. We are going to do our entire basement in this as well, but more on that later.
With the painting being done, all that is left to do is clean up and move Daxxy into his new room! He is so excited, but it is definitely bitter sweet for me since it means he is that much closer to not being my baby anymore.
Happy second birthday to our Daxy boy!!!! You are wild, strong, stubborn, persistent, brave, hilarious, and smart, yet you still happen to be the most sensitive and sweet boy. We love you more than words and can’t wait to celebrate with you all week…island style!
I mentioned before that I had no idea how we would prioritize our punch list. It’s really hard to decide what is most important when everything is equally important, just in different ways. That being said, we kind of naturally just started finishing Eli’s big boy room. The room that was supposed to be done in September (or November- we have conflicting memories in our household).
Lately, Eli has been asking about his “big boy room” and he visits it 1826733 times a day. The kid is almost 3.5 and is still in his crib. To be honest, I’m totally cool with him being in a crib still. I’m all for the “cribs for life lifestyle”. I mean, who wants their crazy threenager getting in and out of bed all night? The second they are done with the crib, they have control. They can leave their bed or worse, leave their room and join ours. No thanks!
Our thoughts were to finish the big boy room and move the crib in there next to his new bed- just to get him comfortable with the idea. However, plans change obviously.
When we found out we were pregnant with Dax, Eli wasn’t even two yet. We didn’t like the idea of making him transition to a bed just because a baby was coming, so we let him stay in his crib. Eli’s mattress is very expensive. Like embarrassing expensive. It pained us to purchase another one for Dax, not knowing how much longer Eli would be in his crib. So, we decided to purchase a cheap mattress for Eli, and give Dax the expensive one. Problem solved, except for Eli is a jumper. He doesn’t climb out of his crib but he jumps. And jumps and jumps and jumps. His cheap mattress is finally falling apart because of the jumping and we really have no choice but to get rid of it. I refuse to purchase another cheap mattress for him, and that’s ok because the other day he woke up from his nap and said “ok mom, I’m ready for my big boy bed now”
So there you have it it, our next project is the big boy room. David worked long and hard on it last weekend and it is looking amazing. We definitely had some hiccups (I’ll share about those later) but I am so happy with how it looks and I can’t wait for Eli to use his new room because after everything he’s been through in 3.5 years- he deserves it more than anybody!
Happy New Year! I am so happy to leave 2017 behind. It was such an eventful year. From being pregnant and living in MN alone while David lived here in Chicago, to driving and moving to Chicago at 35 weeks pregnant. Going into labor almost 2 weeks early…on the day we had to close on our new house. Finding out I needed surgery, getting inconclusive results, being told I might need another surgery and possibly might have something scary going on- just to be told false alarm! Starting a complete renovation on our new house, and the list goes on! This picture is from last New Years when we decided to announce we were pregnant again. Eli had zero idea what was going on since he was newly two, but I love to look at this and look at how much he has changed since then. Anyway, all I want is to be happy, healthy, and settled this year, not too much to hope for right?!
