Deck and Dog Run

We always had a vision for the type of deck we wanted for this house.  We had a walkout basement, so our main level was really high off of the ground.  Did we need a deck right away? No! However, we have a spoiled dog, and when we moved in our baby was just starting to crawl.  I knew that if we didn’t have a deck, I would have to walk all the way down to the unfinished basement to let the dog out and it would just be a disaster with the baby.  It sounds insane that the dog was the reason for this extremely expensive purchase, but it was so worth it!

David believed he was going to build this deck and because it was so high up, there was no way I would allow it.  This was another purchase that we hired out and both of us can agree that we are so glad that David did not take on this project himself.

The deck came out beautiful and the dog used it 98297394 times a day.  We on the other hand used it maybe a total of 5 times in less than 2 years. I have heard from old neighbors that the new owners are sure enjoying it though.IMG_0912IMG_1441I mentioned that the dog used this deck to go potty.  At first, he just went down the stairs into the open yard, but we didn’t want poop or pee all over the yard with a child playing around the grass, so David built a dog run for him instead.  The deck stairs led directly to the dog run, and the basement slider opened to it as well. David did a good job and it looked super cute and was really helpful and functional for us and the dog.    Again, I don’t have a picture of the finished product!IMG_1568
