When One Door Opens

Let’s talk doors.  To start, we agreed that we would replace all of the doors in the house except for the front door, door leading to the garage, and door leading to outside.  We temporarily were just going to paint those doors to save some money.  However, we noticed that the previous kitchen and laundry room (current mudroom and pantry) are absolutely freezing.  Because those rooms are so cold, the cold air gets into the new kitchen and honestly it is just uncomfortable to be in.  We love the new kitchen so it is painful to be so cold while we are in there.  We decided that it was time to replace the doors leading to the garage and the backyard.  When David took out the old doors, he discovered that they were installed incorrectly.  There was a giant gap from the moldings/door to the wall which was letting all of the cold air in.  He filled it with some foam and put in the new doors and you can already feel a significant difference in the temperature.  Replacing the doors was definitely worth the money now that we know how much air was getting in, but it also makes me a little afraid of what else in the house wasn’t installed correctly.  Only time will tell, I guess! Have a great weekend!
