Let There Be Light

We had a busy weekend in our house.  We had to empty out all of the old kitchen cabinets and basically move into our new kitchen because they are demoing the old one this week.  The new kitchen is probably 95% complete. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and we have more space than we know what to do with. I guess we just have to buy more crap to fill it. Or not. Anyway, the house is chaos with stuff everywhere and its so dirty and dusty that it can’t be safe for the kids, but oh well. We are almost done!

Before we started construction, this house had a designated living room, family room, dining room, and kitchen.  We used the family room for storage, the living room as a family room, the dining room as a playroom, and the kitchen as the kitchen.  After the remodel, we will have a designated kitchen, family room, office, pantry, and mudroom.  We were using the original living room as a family room, and we will continue using it as a family room.  This room is a pretty good size, but there was one problem (besides the lovely paint color and texture).  There were no lights.  Absolutely none.  There was a lamp, one dinky lamp.

Our contractor’s floor guy finished the floors and baseboards a while ago, but last week they installed our lights.  I never thought I would be so excited over lights! The room is bright and we no longer need a flashlight to find anything in there. The room is also filled with furniture and all of the storage boxes that used to be in the old family (new kitchen). It is hard for me to picture it as a comfortable family room for us, and the more I go in there, the more I want all new furniture.  I just have too many visions for the room and I am not sure our old furniture will work, but I guess we will have to figure that out when we get there.  There still is a long way to go in that room but I don’t want to give away too much about what we are going to do just yet!
